RUNWAY VS REAL WAY: L.A.M.B. Maxi Dress

Whether you’re beach bound or have a baby on board, a maxi dress is the answer to casual summer elegance. Easily dressed up or down, Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. number floated along the runway with zero accessories (minus the navy blue nails) and a high bun.
Going for a poppy shade of nail polish wasn’t the only change that Alba made to her take on the L.A.M.B. dress. Alba also threw on a cropped Burberry bike vest, antique Paige Novick necklace and left her hair down for an edgier look.

Ignite The Spark Fashion Show

Canadian celebrities hit the catwalk alongside professional models earlier this week in Toronto at the first Spark fashion show to benefit the Children’s Aid Foundation’s Ignite the Spark Fund. So You Think You Can Dance Canada’s Tre Armstrong, acclaimed actress and SCTV star Andrea Martin, Dragon’s Den panelist Arlene Dickinson and improvisational comedian Colin Mocherie were among the stars featured on the runway in creations by fashion icons including Carolina Herrera, J. Mendel, Lanvin and Jil Sander. The show featured music, dance and comedy performances and was hosted by Global Toronto News Hour  at 6 anchors Anne Mroczkowski and Leslie Roberts. Money raised from the event will help children across Canada to access dance, music, visual arts, athletics and other enrichment programs through the Children’s Aid Foundation.
Check back later this week for our behind the scenes video from the show.

ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY: Look Of The Day

ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY: Look Of The Day

Everything’s coming up Rosie these days. After topping Maxim’s 11th annual Hot 100 list earlier this week, the Victoria’s Secret model-turned actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been named the world’s sexiest woman by readers of Britain’s FHM magazine.
Though she may be best known for sporting sultry barely-there outfits, we actually think she looks even more fabulous fully clothed. Out for a lunch date in Hollywood, Huntington-Whiteley takes a cue from spring/summer runways where white took centre stage. The British beauty adds classic accessories to her light basics to create a look that’s equal parts casual and chic.
Look for Huntington-Whiteley starring alongside Shia LaBeouf in Transformers 3, out this July.

Madonna gave new meaning to the term “star-studded red carpet” in her shimmering blue Stella McCartney gown at this year’s Met Gala. Madge added a bit of edge to her elegant look by accessorizing with a sparkling silver snake bracelet. We loved this wild (yet sophisticated) addition to her ensemble so much, we had to find one for ourselves. Here are our favourite Material Girl-inspired serpentine bracelets:
Madonna Bracelet Shopping Guide:
1. Max & Chloe, Melinda Maria Python Pave Cuff, $298.00 – This gold plated snake bracelet will sparkle with it’s covering of cubic zirconias
2. Macy’s Rachel Rachel Roy Bracelet, Gold Tone Snake Cuff, $42.00 – This affordable designer option offers the same dramatic style of Madonna’s jewelry.
3. Forzieri, AZ Collection Streamlined Snake Swarovski Crystal Cuff Bracelet, $389.00 – The Swarovski crystals covering this silver bracelet will make a statement to any event.

Oh horror of horrors! In a New York Times article published yesterday designer Oscar de la Renta was erroneously identified as Giorgio Armani. After noticing the mistake de la Renta called the paper to complain saying: “It’s just fabulous for my ego. Whoever did it must have been on some kind of LSD I don’t know about.”
[New York Times] Vogue Italia pays homage to black beauties in its May 2011 issue. The spread features Jeneil Williams, Cici Ali, Ubah Hassan, Gayle McDonald, Kelly Moreira, Jae Childs, R’el Dade, Jasmine Tookas, Lily Taylor and Ariel Meredith sporting afros and modeling looks by Missoni, Prada, Ports 1961, and more.

FASHION TREND: Strapless Pale Dresses

FASHION TREND: Strapless Pale Dresses

If you’re looking for something to make you feel like a princess this Spring  follow the trends and don a strapless dress in a pale shade complete with embellishments and sparkles. From pale pink to nude these light coloured dresses are the new favourite shade on the red carpet and look so elegant when you add a little (or a lot) of sparkle. Just add your favourite accessories in nearly any colour and hit the town for a memorable night.
Kate Hudson shone in her Stella McCartney gown at last night’s Met Gala. The sparkling bust added to her pregnancy glow. Kate gave the look a pop of colour with her red nail polish.
Bagley Mischka showed pale shimmer on their Spring runway with this rose strapless dress. The metallic shimmer on the dress matches that on the head scarf and platform sandals for a glamourous cocktail look.
Rachel Bilson has us head over heels for her Chanel embroidered and jewelled frock at Tribeca. She choose to keep her accessories simple and black to let this haute couture dress speak for itself.

ANNA DELLO RUSSO: Look of the Day

ANNA DELLO RUSSO: Look of the Day

Okay, clearly this look is not for everyone, but we admire Anna Dello Russo for taking a fashion risk among glamourous gowns galore at the Met Gala. The current editor at large for Vogue Japan showed up in an Alexander McQueen suit fringed with gold and accessorized with an egg headpiece complete with netting.

Met Gala Best Dressed

Fashion’s elite gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala Benefit to honour the late Alexander McQueen last night and there were gorgeous gowns as far as the eye could see. With a lot more hits than misses we had a hard time narrowing down our five faves. In the end, we gravitated toward looks we thought were both dramatic and graceful. Bonus points for Ginnifer Goodwin who turned down a couture creation in favour of a surprisingly elegant green gown from Topshop!

To celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala, which takes place tonight, Vogue has launched a new iPad app that will take you inside the event. The app features hundreds of archival Met Gala photos from the past decade and will be updated throughout the night with insider coverage of this year’s gala and exhibition, which will honour the work of Alexander McQueen. The best part? The app is totally free!
